Prices improve as growers OFFER
Australian growers were actively offering their grain for sale over the past week at prices they were willing to sell for. This seemed to have the desired effect with traded prices of many grades increasing to reach the prices growers were asking. This was despite CBOT wheat futures and other global indicators falling over the week. 34 different buyer businesses purchased wheat, barley, canola, oats and lupins over the past week across 13 port zones around Australia, more were searching grain offered for sale. There is plenty of demand for Australian grain no matter what the grade is or where it is located, buyers are looking for grain offered on CGX so they can crunch their numbers and try to make something work. Many analysts have commented that Australian grain does not need to get cheaper to be competitive into international markets, in fact there is room for upside. If growers keep OFFERING their grain for sale at the price they deem is fair value or a price they are willing to sell for, they are likely to be able to achieve better prices. Growers and their agents have the power to ask for a price, rather than simply accepting a price. Rather than hitting cash bids as you deliver grain this harvest, consider delivering grain into warehouse and offering your grain at a price you feel is fair value. There is often better value and more buyers for your grain than you may realise. The below table provides prices traded on Clear Grain Exchange through last week by grade and port zone.
