Growers creating prices for grain

Buyer bid prices for many grades of grain around Australia have trended sideways to higher recently. Traded values have generally been stronger than published bids as buyers push their prices up to close the gap to prices growers are willing to sell.

Last week 41 buyers purchased grain through Clear Grain Exchange (CGX) and a total of 104 buyers made 10,202 searches for grain listed for sale on the exchange.

There are plenty of buyers searching for Australian grain offered for sale.

It indicates reasonable demand for Australian grains currently.

Domestic feeders and other end-users remain active in getting cover, and exporters are participating ahead of the northern hemisphere harvest in the middle of the year.

Offshore grain markets are monitoring worsening crop conditions in the Black Sea where it's dry, the US where there is talk of winter kill, India and South America where it's hot and dry, all with a back drop of tightening global corn stocks and wheat stocks already tight.

At this time of year, global importers turn to Southern hemisphere exporters to meet their needs, with Australia in the spotlight. However competition from Argentina and limited Chinese demand continues to cap values.

It bodes well for Australian growers to offer their grain for sale to all buyers at prices they are targeting while international demand is focussed on Australia for supply.

By actively offering grain, growers can generate demand for their grain and influence prices by signalling their price expectations to all buyers.

There were 541 sellers of grain through CGX last week and more offering grain for sale at their prices. Growers are directly impacting grain prices by showing the market their price!

Growers are impacting the price of Australian grain by offering grain for sale and leading bids higher.

Wheat made up 84% of all grain traded through CGX last week. 20 different wheat grades traded with similar prices being achieved across all grades in many locations.

Wheat has become wheat in many areas and reflects feed demand underpinning prices. Higher protein milling wheat grades have been trading at better values in some instances as millers and exporters secure cover.

Barley, canola, chickpeas, faba beans, lentils, lupins, oats and sorghum grades were also trading with buyers bidding up prices to levels growers had been asking for.

Simply offer your grain for sale at the price you want on an independent and secure exchange. All buyers can then see your grain, crunch their numbers and try and buy your grain.

Through CGX, growers are protected at all times with anonymity and secure settlement ensuring they retain title until paid.
