Buyers responding to grower prices
Australian growers continued to offer grain for sale at prices they want last week and it's impacting grain prices.
There were 429 sellers of grain across 584 transactions through Clear Grain Exchange (CGX) last week and more growers offering grain for sale at their prices.
The grower behaviour is attracting bids on their grain within the exchange, but it's also pulling published bids higher that are advertised outside of CGX.
Growers are impacting the price of Australian grain by setting their price and showing the market, while being protected by anonymity and secure settlement.
It costs nothing to list grain for sale on CGX, and growers can edit or cancel their grain offered for sale at anytime.
Hence there's no downside in offering your grain for sale on CGX and more growers appear to be taking advantage of this to impact prices.
Last week we saw this grower behaviour transferring into grain stored on-farm. Users of CGX may have noticed they can now list on-farm grain for sale through their online CGX account.
Grain listed for sale that's stored on-farm is protected by counterparty insurance, a diligent buyer registration process, and CGX managing invoicing and collection of funds from the buyer on the growers behalf.
The new independent and secure market for grain stored on-farm is igrainX, and a number of growers were actively offering grain stored on-farm for sale through igrainX and trading last week.
