Activity increases on buyer demand
There was a lot of activity on Clear Grain Exchange in the first week of the new financial year. Growers were offering grain for sale at the price they wanted and buyers were actively searching, bidding and buying grain offered for sale. 37 different buyers bought 44 different grades of wheat, barley, canola, oats, lupins, lentils and faba beans across 15 port zones around Australia. Most price trading ranges were relatively narrow for cereal grains with some improvement towards the end of the week. Canola however saw some reasonable volatility with traded values following international futures higher over the week. Wheat made up 42% of all grain traded nationally with 14 different wheat grades trading from high protein APH2, right down through the cascade of grades to SFW1. Noodle grades were also finding homes in the west. All canola grades were trading in volume across all states last week as growers were achieving their target prices with the lift in values. Feed barley continued to be stable to stronger with price spreads between states partly reflecting the movement of barley from WA to QLD, while the minor crops of oats and pulses remain active and are creating opportunity for those looking to price them. In the igrain market feed wheat was trading in Riverina NSW and northern mallee VIC ex-farm last week. Feed barley was also trading in northern mallee VIC, while peas were trading in northern mallee VIC and Wudinna SA, and faba beans found a price near Keith SA, all on an ex-farm basis. If you have grain for sale, be sure to have it on offer to create demand for it. You set the price - don't miss any opportunities.
