New crop trades on price lift
24/25 season grain for delivery this coming harvest was trading through Clear Grain Exchange last week as growers prepare ahead of harvest.
Many growers are now thinking about what their cashflow needs are through the harvest period.
They're then OFFERING grain for sale now, ahead of harvest, at their target prices in order to sell grain to cover harvest cashflow.
It means they're better able to stand aside from the market if prices push lower during the harvest months.
Canola, feed barley, and major wheat grades such as ASW1 and APW1 are the 24/25 season grades growers appear most interested in offering for sale.
If your grain is not offered for sale it can't sell at the price you want. Offering 24/25 season grain now, shows buyers the price growers want, when they're not under cashflow pressure to sell.
The below chart shows new season GM canola trading in Kwinana versus best published bids last week.
Last week price strength continued in grain markets broadly as hot and dryer weather along with frost events in many parts of Australia shed crop production.
Improved offshore demand for grains also continues to build on the better market sentiment regarding prices.
Victorian and South Australian prices are moving in line with some tough crop conditions in those areas.
Barley saw further price rises with buyers bidding up to grower offer prices to secure the grain. See chart below of barley traded prices at Nhill Victoria as an example.
Wheat was the most sought after commodity over the week with 20 buyers purchasing 10 grades through the week.
Grain stored on-farm was also attracting buyer demand and seeing a lift in prices with various quality of wheat, barley and faba beans trading through igrain last week.
By OFFERING your grain for sale at the price you believe it's worth, or the price you want for it, on CGX (warehoused grain) or igrain (on-farm grain), every buyer in the market can see it and try to buy it.
This creates demand for your grain and often it will sell at prices you didn't think were available at the time.
It's free to have your grain on offer and you can edit or cancel your offer at anytime before it trades. Plus you're anonymous and protected by best-in-class contract settlement if your grain sells.
There is no downside in offering your grain for sale on CGX (if in warehouse) or igrain (if stored on farm) - only upside!
For those thinking about making grain sales for the coming harvest to manage cashflow, you can now offer your grain for sale for Nov/Dec and Dec/Jan delivery on CGX.
