Grain prices pushed higher
Grain prices pushed higher through last week on the back of nervousness over offshore production prospects and the Australian dollar retreating back from its recent highs. This enabled Australian buyers to pass on the gains and push Australian prices higher. Some grades were trading over $15/t higher by the end of the week, often at better prices than published bids indicated. Demand for Australian grain remains strong with 41 different buyers purchasing nearly 160,000t of grain through CGX last week across all the major grain producing states. The demand appears to be across all grades and commodities, across all states. If you have grain for sale, be sure to have it on offer to create demand for it. If you're unsure of your sales price or think the market may improve, simply put your offer up at a higher price - you set the price. CGX gives growers control to set their price for their grain and send that price signal to the market whilst being protected by anonymity and secure settlement if their grain sells. Many growers were taking advantage of the improved prices last week selling their grain at their sales targets. H2, APW1 and ASW1 wheat were the predominant grades trading in NSW and QLD last week with 15 grades of wheat, barley and canola trading in total. APW1 wheat, BAR1 barley, and ASW1 wheat were the top 3 grades trading by volume in Victoria with 15 grades of wheat, barley and canola trading.
